Melkweg Amsterdam Introduce: Polaris, Silent Planet, Thornhill and Paledusk

That night, I had the pleasure of attending a concert that left an indelible mark on my musical soul. The Australian metalcore band Polaris, along with their formidable support acts, Silent Planet, Thornhill, and Paledusk, delivered an unforgettable performance that shook the very foundations of Malkweg Amsterdam.

Polaris: A Journey Through 'Fatalism' The headliners, Polaris, took the stage with an energy that was both electrifying and poignant. Their latest album, Fatalism, explores themes of dread, despair, and dystopia, reflecting the turbulent times we've all been living through.

The emotional weight of their performance was palpable, especially given the recent loss of their guitarist, Ryan Siew. This tragedy seemed to have deepened their sound, making it heavier and more ominous, yet still true to their roots in melodic metalcore, post-rock, and electronic elements. From the opening riffs to the final, resonating chords, Polaris captivated the audience. Tracks like "Hypermania", ''All of This is Fleeting'' and "Masochist" hit hard, blending aggressive breakdowns with haunting melodies. The band's synergy was incredible, with each member pouring their heart into every note. The crowd was right there with them, headbanging and singing along, creating an atmosphere of shared catharsis.

Silent Planet: Enchanting and Intense Silent Planet was the first of the support acts to take the stage, and they set the bar high with their unique blend of hardcore, post-rock, and metal. Their enchanting hooks and powerful lyrics made the audience mesmerized. Highlights included "Trilogy" and "Panopticon," where the band’s dynamic range was on full display, shifting seamlessly from melodic introspection to hardcore ferocity. They put on a killer show at that stage.

Thornhill: Atmospheric Brilliance Next up was Thornhill, who surprised many with the depth and variety of their sound. Known for their crushing riffs and atmospheric metalcore, they ventured into alternative and rock territories with their newer material. Songs like "Where We Go When We Die" and "Coven" showcased their ability to blend heaviness with melody, creating a rich and immersive sonic landscape.

Paledusk: A Wild Ride The night began with a bang thanks to Paledusk from Japan. Their intense mix of metalcore, industrial, nu-metal, and EDM was unlike anything I had heard before. Their performance was a whirlwind of energy and innovation, leaving the audience both exhilarated and eager for more. Tracks like "Happy Talk" and "Wind Back" were standout moments, demonstrating their ability to seamlessly fuse genres into a cohesive, electrifying experience.

A Night to Remember In summary, the Polaris concert at Melkweg Amsterdam was nothing short of spectacular. Each band brought something unique to the stage, creating a diverse and engaging lineup that kept the energy high from start to finish. Polaris, in particular, delivered a deeply emotional and powerful performance that will stay with me for a long time. If you have the chance to see them live, I highly recommend it—you won’t be disappointed.
